Octopus Closed Season and Maximum Catch Limit Notice 2026

In exercise of the powers conferred upon it by regulations 41(3), 41(4)(b) and 41(5) of the Marine Protection Regulations 2014, the Authority has, after consultation with the Nature Conservancy Council, issued the following Notice-

Title.

1.  This Notice may be cited as the Octopus Closed Season and Maximum Catch Limit Notice 2026.

Commencement.

2.  This Notice comes into operation on the day of publication.

Application.

3.  The capture of any Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) within British Gibraltar Territorial Waters is prohibited from 28th April 2026 to 9th June 2026, both days inclusive.

4.  The maximum catch of Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) shall be limited to 5 kilograms per person and/or vessel, in any single day, from 10th June 2026 to 24th June 2026, both days inclusive.
